Goku is what you might call not quite human however it is always difficult to tell when somebody is an animated character. To look at him he look just like one of the many other Japanese animations that have come out in recent years however as the story evolves we find out that Goku is actually an alien from another planet and not only that but he is one of the most destructive races of people in the universe. Fighting is in his blood and in the days of his youth he was kept indoors out of the moonlight so that he would not turn into the more primate evil person that he would have been back on his home planet. Being one of the royal families he is actually very powerful though he does not know this until later in the story. The first few episodes of the Dragon Ball Z story start out harmless enough with people fighting against each other in tournaments. Later other aliens start to arrive and can easily win the competitions against the other humans until Goku comes to save the day.
Later in the series you go back in time to when Goku and his helpful friends are actually only children however in the original series the TV animation goes for so long that the characters all have children themselves. Some of the kids are the answer to the next generation of Dragon Ball Z fighters however being children they do not know this yet. Two of the kids can actually morph together to become one powerful person however this takes many years of training because the kids do not want to fight the evil monsters from other planets. The key to the series are the actual Dragon Balls which if found all together can grant the holders a wish. Normally the characters have to ask for the world to be saved because they are in desperate trouble against the aliens. This series is a great Japanese animation to get into even though it is now about 30 years old.
